Two women from northwest China's Gansu Province have been arrested in Beijing for trafficking in heroin, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Public Security announced Thursday.
Ma Xiuqin and Zhang Ganiang were arrested with 13.2 kg of heroin, valued at some two million yuan (US$242,000).
The amount of the confiscated heroin was the largest of any single police anti-drug trafficking mission conducted in Beijing since 1949.
Statistics show local police have uncovered 620 drug-trafficking cases and 65 cases involving drug addicts since local police launched a campaign against drug trafficking and drug use in May.
So far, 620 suspects have been detained and a total 21 kg of various drugs has been confiscated.
