A total of 40 items of legislation will be completed this year to tackle problems concerning public interests, city management and social development, the Beijing municipal government declared Friday.
Legislation work would focus on the city's two major tasks in the near future: realizing modernization and a successful Olympic Games in 2008, said the Legislative Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government.
To promote economic development and optimize investment, the legislative plan will include regulations on water resources protection, promotion of the exhibition industry, strengthening management of entry-exit points and urban real estate.
Legislation will also stress protection of historic and cultural sites, especially the Great Wall and the ancient city walls. It will also help improve the city's service functions and levels and strengthen its anti-terrorism measures.
Lawmakers will also formulate rules to tackle defaulted payments and workplace safety.
