Liu Yandong, a vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), is urging religious organizations in China to play a role in the campaign against SARS.
Liu, who is also director of the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made her call on Tuesday during a meeting with leaders of religious organizations.
Liu thanked religious organizations for their efforts in helping fight the epidemic. She also recommended to the organizations measures for the prevention of the spread of the disease in places of worship.
