New CPPCC Head Meets Hong Kong, Macao CPPCC Members
Jia Qinglin, the just-elected chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC) National Committee, Thursday evening urged CPPCC members from Hong Kong and Macao to make new contribution to the prosperity, stability and development of the two special administrative regions (SAR), and to the complete reunification of the motherland.

Jia, who Thursday afternoon succeeded Li Ruihuan as chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, made the remarks on behalf of the new leadership of the Standing Committee of CPPCC National Committee at a reception held in honor of the CPPCC members from Hong Kong and Macao.

Jia said the primary task of the CPPCC, China's top advisory body, is to work hard under the requirements of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and mobilize the enthusiasm of all sides, so as to continue creating new conditions for the CPPCC's development according to the policies adopted at the on-going CPPCC annual session and contribute to the building a well-off society in an all-around manner and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

He praised the CPPCC members from Hong Kong and Macao for their contribution to the return of Hong Kong and Macao, to the prosperity and stability of the two SARs, and to the modernization of the motherland.

Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said he believed they would do their best to assume their duty in their tenure.
