Jia Qinglin, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), attended a panel discussion of the Beijing delegation of deputies to the first session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) Thursday afternoon.
Jia, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, joined in the deliberation of Premier Zhu Rongji's Report on the Government Work and spoke on the encouraging development of the Chinese capital.
Zhu's government work report is an inspiring one, Jia noted. It comprehensively summed up achievements in various fields and experience of the government work over the past five years and made feasible suggestions to this year's government work.
In case of Beijing, Jia spoke highly of the remarkable progress the capital city had made in its economic growth, the development of socialist ethics and its cultural development, democratic legal construction, social security and stability, as well as Party Building and other fields and raised a host of candid and useful proposals for on the future work.
Among his proposals and suggestions, he asked Beijing authorities to strive to develop the new and hi-tech industry, modernize the manufacturing industry and create a sound environment for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Meanwhile, the former Beijing Party chief called for putting the interests of the people first and conscientiously solving real problems of concern to the people in Beijing.
