The Higher People's Court of Guangdong announced on Friday it has upheld the original verdict in the case of convicted terrorist and spy Wang Bingzhang made by the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court.
Wang was sentenced to life imprisonment and deprived of his political rights for life on charges of supplying military secrets to Taiwan during the past 20 years, and organizing and leading a terrorist group in China, according to the first verdict of the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court on Feb.10, 2003.
After the conviction, Wang appealed to the Higher People's Court of Guangdong, and enlisted two attorneys to appeal on his behalf.
The Guangdong Higher People's Court organized a legal panel who after carefully studying the case, held that the original verdict was justified on the grounds of sufficient evidence, appropriate conviction and following legitimate verdict procedures. The court overruled Wang's claim.
Wang, two family members and his attorney were among people attending the public verdict Friday morning.
