China Passes Revised Draft of Regulation Banning Child Labor
The Chinese central government Wednesday passed in principle a revised draft of the regulation banning the use of child labor.

The 63rd executive meeting of the State Council, which was presided over by Premier Zhu Rongji, concluded that the revised regulation will be made public and will go into effect after further modifications.

The regulation issued in 1991 banning the use of child labor has played an important role in protecting the legitimate rights of children under 16.

But the regulation needs revision to be compatible with the social and economic changes in the past decade, and includes tougher penalties for the use of child labor.
