Some 30,000 pieces of fireworks would be lit up in Hong Kong on October 1, to celebrate the 53rd Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, organizers of the fireworks display announced Monday.
The National Day Fireworks Display, solely sponsored by the Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organizations Ltd, is designed to encourage all Hong Kong people to love the motherland and to remain resolute during current economic recession, said the federation's President Yu Kwok Chun.
The display, divided into 10 spectacular scenes to illustrate Hong Kong's distinctiveness, would last 23 minutes and 25 seconds at a cost of 2.5 million HK dollars (US$320,000), Yu continued.
The fireworks to be discharged from one large barge accompanied by eight pontoons at the Victorian Harbor, are expected to attract thousands of viewers.
"Our federation hopes the National Day's Fireworks Display can enhance nationalism amongst all Hong Kong people," Yu noted, adding "Meanwhile, we hope this marvelous and magical fireworks display can encourage all Hong Kong people to be brave and optimistic during economic turndown."
According to Yu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR Government Tung Chee Hwa, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSARGao Siren, and Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR Ji Peiding, would officiate at the fireworks display.
