Beijing to Further Curb Air Pollution
Beijing is to cut nearly 100,000 tons of pollutant matter from the air within the coming nine months, according to a document issued by the Beijing municipal government Monday.

According to the new notice on air pollution control, focus will be put on reducing the total amount of pollutant emission and treating particulate matter. It is expected that the project will lead to a total 200 days a year whose air quality is fairly good or excellent.

The municipal government took a series of measures to reduce pollutant emission from 1998 to 2001. Statistics show that Beijing now has an average of 183 days a year with fairly good or excellent air quality.

The notice says that properly covering sandy surfaces, further promoting the use of clean fuels and exerting stricter control over automobile tail gas will help reduce air pollutant matter by 100,000 tons over the nine months.
