Foreign enterprises are welcome to engage in Beijing's infrastructure projects, said Liu Qi, mayor of Beijing, which is to host the 2008 Olympic Games.
Liu made the remark Tuesday while meeting Pierre Bilger, president and CEO of French-based power engineering and transport group Alstom.
The 2008 Olympic Games will bring great opportunities to the city, especially to the city's transport and environmental protection sectors, Liu said.
Beijing will complete 150 kilometers of underground railway and light railway by 2008, and another gas pipeline which will bring the city's annual gas supply to four billion cubic meters.
The municipal government welcomes experienced foreign companies to engage in such infrastructure projects, he said. The government has set up a new office in charge of communicating with foreign enterprises for transportation projects.
Bilger said that both Alstom and the French government are interested in Beijing's infrastructure projects.
Alstom has established more than 10 joint ventures in China.
