Japan Apologizes over Toxic Arms Accident

A man points to the place where nine chemical weapons left by the Japanese invaders during WWII were found in a village in Longjing City, northeast China's Jilin Province in this March 26, 2005 file photo. Poison gas from chemical weapons abandoned by the Japanese has sickened three people in Guangzhou in the latest accident. "Our government truly regrets that the accident happened and expresses our heartfelt sympathy for the sufferers," Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hatsuhisa Takashima said in a statement released late on June 26, 2005.
