Another Aftershock Shakes Banda Aceh

An aftershock measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale on Tuesday shook Banda Aceh, the capital city of tsunami-hit province of Aceh in Indonesia.

The quake lasted about 10 seconds following five aftershocks occurred the day earlier, and one of them measured 5.6 on the Richter scale, the head of the local geophysics service in Banda Aceh, Syahnan, said.

But up to now no casualty and damage reported.

Tuesday' temblor took place at around 4:54 p.m. local time and its epicenter was at a depth of about 10 kilometers and about 70 kilometers southwest of Banda Aceh.

Syahnan said he believed more aftershocks would occur in the next few weeks after the powerful quake and subsequent tsunami waves that killed over 170,000 people in the region on Dec. 26.
