The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), China's biggest bank, has donated 1 million yuan (about US$120,000) to the tsunami-hit Asian countries via the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), a bank spokesman said Saturday.
The bank, in which the RCSC opened a special account to receive donations, will go all out to offer donators sound financial service, the spokesman said.
The ICBC is providing online services to those who want to donate money. Through the ICBC website donators can easily finish the payment that will immediately reach the RCSC account. The bank's service is free of charge for both donators and the RCSC.
After a strong earthquake and tsunamis devastated southeast Asian countries in the Indian Ocean on Dec. 26, Chinese people from all walks of life and non-governmental organizations across the country have rushed to offer help.
The ICBC spokesman said the employees at the bank's Beijing-based headquarters alone volunteered to donate nearly 100,000 yuan (US$12,000) for the areas.
