Two relatively strong aftershocks of the massive weekend quake jolted the Nicobar Islands in India Wednesday, according the Hong Kong Observatory.
The observatory Wednesday reported two quakes, estimated to be 6.2 and 5.8 on the Richter scale respectively. One was recorded at9:45 a.m. (Hong Kong time), and the other was at 2:02 p.m. (Hong Kong time).
Both of the quakes were determined in the Nicobar Islands, morethan 1,600 kilometers southeast of Calcutta.
The Indian archipelago was jolted by a series of aftershocks of 4.4 to 5.5 magnitude on Tuesday.
The Andaman and Nicobar region, located about 1,500 km east ofthe Indian mainland, is made up of more than 500 islands, but about 30 are inhabited.
