Top Hong Kong director Johnnie To is exploring possible Hollywood projects, an assistant said Tuesday in Hong Kong.
The assistant declined to confirm a report in Tuesday's Apple Daily that To will team up with Chow Yun-fat next year for a US remake of the gangster thriller Hard Boiled, which was directed by John Woo and starring Chow.
"There are a lot of people who want the director to go to Hollywood," the aid, who would only identify himself as surnamed Ting, said.
Ting said To has signed with a Hollywood talent agency that is scouting projects for the director and that he attended meetings about possible movies during a trip to Los Angeles two months ago.
As for the Hard Boiled rumor, Ting said, "He (Chow) is in Hollywood. It would be a good thing if they make a foreign film together, but it's too early to say."
To is known for films like Love on a Diet, Full-time Killer, PTU, and more recently, the award-winning gangster flick Election.
