Official with CCTV noted on December 11 that they will launch a High Definition film and TV channel starting from the beginning of 2006 and TV stations in over 50 cities across the country will transmit the new channel. 

It is said that there will be four new programs, mainly foreign and domestic films and TV series, in the "HD film and TV" channel.

According to its plan, the 2006 Spring Festival Gala, next year's World Cup and Asian Games will also be transmitted through the HD channel.
