Should an epidemic occur, all poultry susceptible to infection within a 5-km radius of the affected area must be given an emergency vaccination. Meanwhile an isolation zone where immunization is required should be set up surrounding the affected area. While vaccination should be given only to those healthy poultry populations that have not been infected with HPAI, flocks of parent chickens and commercial layers generally ought to be vaccinated two or three times. This must be done under the guidance of veterinary personnel when emergency vaccination is required.
