23. Why track down the origin of the epidemic during an outbreak of HPAI?
This is done because timely and thorough eradication of the source of the epidemic is deemed to be the linchpin upon which the successful control of HPAI will depend. When an HPAI epidemic breaks out, updates on the situation should be reported in a timely manner to the higher authorities. The speedy location of the source of an epidemic, followed by a blockade of the affected locality and destruction of the poultry there represent effective measures to help keep the bird flu epidemic from spreading further.
