Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Tung Chee Hwa visited Saturday several residential areas, medical care units and border quarantine points to check preventive measures against SARS.
At the Hospital Authority headquarters, Tung encouraged all the medical staff to make every effort to win the battle against the disease.
He told the frontline staff that he is very concerned about the preventive work among the elderly and "we must take extra care at elderly homes."
At an immigration control point, Tung asked how temperature checks for travelers were carried out.
Tung toured later the arrival hall to inspect the screening of travelers over the immigration counters.
Earlier in the morning, Tung was also briefed by officials on the operation of a multi-disciplinary response team in various areas, including contact-tracing, cleansing and disinfection measures in the community.
He stressed the range of measures taken by the immigration department to provide a safe and hygienic environment for both its staff and travelers.
"Our next important step ahead is to bring down the number of new cases of infection to single digit. We do not wish to see any of our frontline medical and nursing staff get infected," Tung said.
He said all the measures must be rigorous and up to the highest standard in order to further bring down the number of new cases of infection.
