The People First Party (PFP) and the Kuomintang (KMT) Party of China will faithfully perform their watchdog function in Taiwan's legislature to make sure the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) do good to Taiwanese, PFP Chairman James CY Soong said Thursday at a press conference.
Soong made this remark while answering a question from a Taiwan reporter in the Beijing Hotel after his formal talks with General Secretary Hu Jintao of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, after which a communiqué involving six-point consensus was jointly issued.
Calling the consensus a "goodwill gesture" from the mainland, Soong hoped the Taiwan authorities headed by Chen Shui-bian would take the consensus into serious consideration and put the people's interests first.
The PFP will not hesitate in working together with the KMT to supervise the authorities and to defend the fundamental interests of the Taiwanese, he said.
