Britain and Spain are expected to submit a revised draft resolution on Iraq to the United Nations Security Council, in a bid to win wider international support for reconstruction efforts in the country, European Union (EU) diplomatic sources said in Brussels Monday.
At a meeting with his EU colleagues in Luxembourg, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said the resolution will be tabled in the Security Council later Monday, the sources said.
"Straw said a new draft would be presented tonight with a view of having it passed during this week," the sources added.
The United States on Monday circulated among members of the Security Council a third amended draft resolution on Iraq, requesting that the Iraqi Governing Council provide by Dec. 15 a timetable for the return of the Iraqi sovereignty.
