The American public is increasingly concerned about the continuing casualties of US troops in Iraq, according to a new poll released on Monday.
About 44 percent of the surveyed said the level of US casualties in Iraq is unacceptable, while 51 percent called it acceptable, the ABC News-Washington Post poll showed.
In a similar poll in early April, less than one-third, or 28 percent, said the level of casualties was unacceptable, while two-thirds said it was acceptable.
More than 50 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq either in hostile fire or in accidents since May 1 when US President George W. Bush declared the ending of major combat in Iraq. However, some 14 American soldiers died this month alone.
The poll also found that despite the uneasiness about casualties, two-thirds, or 68 percent, support the job Bush is doing and his actions in Iraq.
The poll of 1,024 adults was conducted on June 18-22 and had an error margin of 3 percentage points.
