Peruvian FM Says Invasion of Iraq Fractures UN
The invasion of Iraq launched by the United States fractured the international order and the United Nations, Peruvian Foreign Minister Allan Wagner said on Saturday.

In an interview with a local radio station, Wagner said that such a fracture is even more serious in the UN Security Council, for it generates a confrontation among the permanent members - the United States, Britain, Russia, France and China.

The UN Security Council "must play a central role in the reconstruction of Iraq during the present crisis," he said.

He emphasized the importance of paying respect to the sovereignty of Iraq and the will of the Iraqi people.

Wagner said that in view of these facts "it is important to strengthen the international law, the compliance with principles and regulations of the United Nations, in order to improve the taking of decisions."

He affirmed that Peru considers it is necessary to strengthen the role of the United Nations after the Iraqi war.
