German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and British Prime Minister Tony Blair will hold talks next Tuesday on the Iraq war, a German government spokesman said in Berlin Thursday.
The two leaders will meet after a summit meeting this weekend in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The summit meeting will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Jacques Chirac and Schroeder.
France, Germany and Russia are against the ongoing US-led war on Iraq, which began on March 20, while Britain firmly stands by the United States and has sent troops to join the coalition forces fighting in Iraq.
As the war coming to an end, the three have been pressing for the United States to let the United Nations play the leading role in Iraq's postwar reconstruction.
