Dhaka Calls for Protecting Holy Sites of Iraq
Foreign Secretary Shamsher M. Chowdhury on Thursday called for preserving the sanctity of holy sites of Iraq from the destruction of war.

Chowdhury said Bangladesh was deeply concerned over loss of lives of innocent people in Iraq and reiterated Bangladesh's stand for Iraq's territorial integrity.

"Bangladesh would come out with its response as the situation evolves," the foreign secretary told a regular weekly briefing at his office.

He said Bangladesh was ready to participate in reconstruction of Iraq under the UN umbrella.

Replying to a question on the impact of the war on the country's economy, he said no trade contact with any middle-eastern country has been canceled yet.
