F/A-18 Hornet fighters from the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier dropped a total of 15 satellite-guided bombs in Iraq Wednesday, a spokesman of the aircraft carrier said Wednesday evening.
Two F/A-18 Hornet fighters dropped 3 JSOWs (Joint Stand-off Weapons), each 1,000 pound, over three radar sites in Baghdad, said Brook Dewalt, the spokesman.
Because of the sandstorm weather in the Gulf, the two fighters, after dropping bombs, diverted to Al Jaber, a military base in Kuwait, before returning to the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier.
On Wednesday evening, eight F/A-18 fighters were involved in air attacks against military targets in Iraq. Four of them dropped four JDAMs (Joint Direct Attack Munitions) over an Iraqi convoy within the vicinity of the operation of the 5th US Corps. Another four warplanes dropped 8 JDAMS against a barrack in Southeast Iraq, Dewalt said.
Because of the sandstorm hitting the USS Kitty Hawk on Wednesday, a total of six flights were canceled, including two F-14s and six F-18s. Another four sorties were rescheduled.
