The international community has not come up with the amount requested by Iran in relief assistance to meet Iraqi refugees' needs, an Iranian official said Wednesday.
Ahmad Hosseini, the head of the Interior Ministry's Refugees' Crisis Headquarters, referred to the amount of relief aid requested by the UN high commissioner for refugees(UNHCR) for Iran at one million dollars, but that is just a small amount of Iran's 16-million-dollar request, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Iran requested the humanitarian assistance to refugees two months ago and said it would meet the requirements of 10 refugee camps constructed near the Iran-Iraq border, Hosseini said.
The humanitarian relief assistance donated by Russia had been sent to the Red Cross Center in Iran's western Kermanshah province, he added.
According to Hosseini, no Iraqi refugee has thus far entered the country, but Iran is preparing to accept and accommodate refugees near Iraqi border.
