In response to the high enthusiasm in the world's largest Muslim country, Jakarta-based TV-7 announced Tuesday that it would extend news broadcast about Iraq war from four hours a day to 12 hours.
The new schedule will be effective as long as the Iraq-US war continues," the TV station said in a media release.
TV-7 spokeswoman Uni Lubis denied reports that President Megawati Soekarnoputri had pressured the TV to halt live news from Iraq.
"If there had been such pressures, I would have known first," she said, adding that TV-7 would fix previous technical problems to deliver the best for domestic viewers.
The ongoing war in Iraq has drawn public attention in Indonesia and sparked anti-US rallies in uninterrupted six days since the United States started its military campaign last Thursday.
The government has strongly condemned the unilateral action in Iraq and urged the UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting to end the war.
