The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Monday urged relevant parties to the Iraqi war to respect the Geneva Conventions.
The ICRC was trying to get information about captives taken by both the coalition and Iraqi forces, ICRC spokesman Florian Westphal said.
On Sunday five captured US soldiers were shown on Al Jazeera TV.
Westphal urged both sides of the war to adhere fully to the Geneva Conventions.
The 1949 Geneva Conventions set basic humanitarian standards inarmed conflict and empower the ICRC to visit POWs and monitor their treatment.
