US-led War on Iraq Violates UN Charter: FM
The US military action against Iraq violates the UN charter and most UN members stand opposed to inspections ending, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said Thursday at a regular news conference in Beijing.

The US strikes against Iraq "violates the UN charter and the basic norms of international laws," said Kong.

"I believe that within the Security Council most members are opposed to the conclusion of inspections in such a short time and are in favor of a political settlement of discussions."

Kong urged the United States to stop using force against Iraq, saying there was still hope for peace.

"We urge relevant countries to stop their military action and return to the right path," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan, saying China is "seriously concerned" about the war.

"As long as there is hope we will continue to work hard for peace."
