Japanese Democratic Party Director-General Visits Nanjing Massacre Memorial
The Japanese Democratic Party Director-General Naoto Kan and his wife Sunday paid a visit to the Nanjing Massacre Memorial in Jiangsu Province, east China.

Naoto Kan offered his profound apologies and expressed deep remorse to some of the survivors of the Nanjing Massacre over 60 years ago, during which 300,000 Chinese people were killed by Japanese aggressor troops.

After laying a wreath for the victims of the Massacre and listening to the survivors' accounts of the Japanese soldiers' crimes, he affirmed he is against Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine.

He said he will tell the Japanese people about his experiences in Nanjing in an effort to present the historical facts to them and to prevent such a tragedy from recurring.
