Agnes Smedley – A Passionate Warrior with No Compromise

Agnes Smedley was a well-known American journalist, writer, and social activist, and an outstanding woman. She came to China at the end of 1928, where she lived for 12 years. Smedley witnessed the Japanese aggression in China and made known the events to the world through her books including China's Red Army Marches, Chinese Destinies, China Fights Back, and Battle Hymn of China. These books told of the revolution in China and became masterpieces in their own right. During the War of Resistance, she cared for wounded soldiers, organized medical treatment activities, and visited many places in north and central China. Her endeavors and passion inspired people and touched many other foreigners in China, who later joined her in support of China's efforts in fighting against the Japanese invasion.

Smedley, a dear friend of the Chinese people, devoted the last 20 years of her life to the Chinese revolution.
