Shanghai has made plans to devote over 1.8 billion yuan (over US$200 million) to forestry in the city. The rate of forest coverage is expected to be above 22 percent by 2007.
From 2003 to 2007, the works will take consideration of the city's central greenbelt layout, the traffic situation, development demands and agricultural restructuring.
It is intended that Shanghai's rate of forest coverage will reach above 22 percent by 2007 and more than 35 percent by 2020.
