New Standards for Automobiles Exhaust Gas Emission Issued

The emission of the tail gas of all heavy-duty automobiles has to be up to the Euro II standards as of September 1, according to a public notice by the SEPA.

This marks that the control on the exhaust of automobiles has entered a new stage.

The notice demands that the automobiles and engines that were up to the GB17691 and GB14762 standards of the first stage in exhaust emission will no longer be approved in the second stage that begins from September 1.

The automobiles and engines that are approved for their tail gas emission limit may be produced, imported, marketed and registered up to August 31 of 2004.

As of September 1 of 2004, all pressure combustion engines and heavy-duty automobiles with such engines newly made must be up to the GB17691 standards and the ignition combustion engines and the heavy-duty automobiles with such engines must be up to the GB14762 standards.

All those automobiles and engines that fail to meet the above-said standards will not be permitted to be produced, imported, marketed or registered.

All local environmental protection authorities must see to it that all the automobiles and engines marketed in their locality are up to the prescribed standards
