Penguins from Antarctica Settle Down in Dalian

A pair of king penguins, brought to China from Antarctica by a scientific expedition in late March, arrived Sunday in Dalian, a port city of northeast China's Liaoning Province.

The two penguins, each with the height of about 1.2 meters, have settled into their new home in the city's Laohutan Polar Marine Aquarium and will be shown to the public during the seven-day-longMay 1 holiday, said a worker with the Laohutan Polar Marine Aquarium.

The penguins will also be used in scientific research on living habits and mating habits of penguins, according to the aquarium worker.

With approval from relevant international organizations, the pair of penguins were brought to Shanghai on March 24 by the 21st Chinese South Pole expedition. The birds were kept in Shanghai for adjustment till Sunday.

The Laohutan Polar Marine Aquarium, where a great number of polar creatures such polar bears, belugas and elephant seals live, is the only base in China for spreading knowledge about polar life and is believed to be the largest of its kind in the world. It was opened to tourists in April 2002.
