China will invest 7.5 billion yuan or more than 900 million US dollars in the next six years, on environmental protection for the "Sanjiangyuan" area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Projects to preserve the area's ecology and improve underdeveloped local production methods include protecting grasslands from grazing damage, wetland protection and encouraging emigration to more fertile areas.
"Sanjiangyuan", an area of 360 thousand square kilometers, is located at the headstream of the Yellow River, the Yangtze River and the Lancang River.
It contains the highest concentration of animals at high-altitude and a national natural reserve was set up in 2003 to protect the area's environment.
