Chinese-language hits Ang Lee's "Lust, Caution" and Jet Li-starred big-budget historical epic "The Warlords" gained six nominations respectively on the shortlist of the 2nd Asian Film Awards announced on Thursday.
Chinese director and actor Jiang Wen's "The Sun Also Rises" got five nominations while Japanese movie "I Just Didn't Do it" and South Korea's "Secret Sunshine" got four.
Best film nominations include "Lust, Caution", "Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame", "I Just Didn't Do It", "Secret Sunshine", "The Sun Also Rises" and "The Warlords".
Ang Lee will compete with Peter Chan ("The Warlords"), Jiang Wen ("The Sun Also Rises"), Lee Chang-dong ("Secret Sunshine"), Masayuki Suo ("I Just Didn't Do It") and Zhang Lu ("Desert Dream") for the best director.
Hong Kong star Tony Leung Chiu-wai from "Lust, Caution", Jet Li who starred in "The Warlords" will compete for the best actor, along with Ryo Kase from "I Just Didn't Do It", and South Korean Song Kang-ho from "Secret Sunshine", who won the title last year for his performance in the thriller "The Host".
Jeon Do-yeon from "Secret Sunshine", who already won the best actress in Cannes for the same film last year, was nominated Thursday for the best actress with Korean-American actress Kim Yun- jin from "Seven Days", Chinese actress Joan Chen from "The home Song Stories", Chinese actress Tang Wei from "Lust, Caution", Japanese actress Kirin Kiki from "Tokyo Tower: Mom and Me, and Sometimes Dad" and Deepika Padukone from "Om Shanti Om".
The awarding ceremony of the 2nd Asian Film Awards debuted by the Hong Kong film festival last year will be held in Hong Kong on March 17.
