The two widely acclaimed dance groups combined their different styles in three pieces for Beijing audiences: Their Thoughts Are Thinking Them, Chairman Dancers and Catalyst. The first is a popular work from the National Ballet's own classical repertoire, and the second is the Irish side's showcase piece.
The most fascinating part is the collaboration, Catalyst. It's this contemporary dance piece's premiere, choreographed by Liz Roche. The ballet troupe is famous around the globe for excelling at classics. Rex Levitates is at the forefront of experimental dance. Though the accent is different, dance is their common language.
Hao Bin, dancer of national ballet of China, said, "We've been preparing for only one month, but we're very interested and excited to perform with Irish dancers. They're so creative and energetic. We don't often do experimental dances, but it's easy for us to accept their ideas and cooperate."
To most of the Chinese audience, the performance may seem a bit abstract. But the cooperation is a refreshing experience for them and the Chinese ballet dancers, who've seized the opportunity to stretch themselves.
