The enthusiastic thumping of drumbeats accompanied the various African performances. South Africa's world renowned Drumstruck kicked off the night and performers from nine different countries including South Africa, Congo, Mauritius and Botswana boasted their most proudful songs and dances one after another.
All in bright-colored ethnic clothes, the artists narrate their tribal lives and wishes and hopes for the future. To many people, Africa is a mysterious place, but through their colorful array of song and dance, the beauty of the culture is expressed in the simplest terms.
One audience member said, "The evening gala is great! I've watched similar performances before but it is the first time for me to realize the unique charm of African in its entirety."
Finally, a surprise was in store for the audience when Chinese Yangko was presented. The night ended on a positive note hopefully staying in the hearts of all who attended.
