Photo Competition Heads South

China's southern city of Guangzhou has sometimes been called a cultural desert -- more famous for its business and industry than culture. But now, one of China's prestigious photography competitions is doing something to change that.

The annual UNESCO "Humanity Photo Awards" have been held in Beijing for the last three years, but now moves to the southern metropolis, Guangzhou. Before the formal launch of this year's competition, officials from UNESCO together with 9 jurors from 7 different countries took in some of the city's more beautiful night scenery.

The result of this year's competition will be announced on Thursday at Guangdong Art Gallery. Works by artists from 15 countries are on display in this competition with a theme of protecting traditional culture.
