A popular Taiwanese news anchorwoman who was severely injured in a train crash in Britain nearly two years ago says she has recovered and hopes to be back on the air soon.
Liu Hai-juo was in a coma for two months after the May 2002 accident. She was transferred to the Chinese mainland and spent 21 months in a Beijing hospital where she was treated by a brain specialist.
Seven people died and more than 70 people were hurt in the accident, which happened when an express train careered off the track and onto a platform north of London.
"I am so glad to be back," Liu said on her return to Taiwan Saturday night.
"Many of my viewers have expressed worries about me, and I hope to be back at work soon and meet them on the air," said Liu.
The 36-year-old reporter for Hong Kong-based Phoenix Satellite Television, however, said the network had not yet lined up any shows for her.
Two of Liu's friends, television journalists Wu Chia-ching and Lin Chia-hsin, died in the derailment. Enditem
