Dancing up Mountain at the Macao Arts Festival

One of the early highlights at the Macao Arts festival was a breath-taking performance staged by dancers from the United States. Complementing their performance was an appreciate audience who filled the Macao Culture Center to capacity.

The performance by the US high-altitude acrobatic dancers aims to combine strength and gentleness. The choreographers were inspired by the adventure sport of rock-climbing, adding many of the movements seen in climbing to the performance.

Use of clever sets, lighting and sound allowed dancers to perform against a simulated cliff-face, lending their dance the appearance of rock-climbing. The performance was further enhanced by the addition of natural scenes, such as mountains, deserts and rivers. These were displayed against the back of the stage, giving the audience a feeling of being in the wild.

With ten days left to run, more exciting performances like this can be expected at the Macao Arts Festival.
