Macao Issues First Bilingual Book on Medicinal Herbs
The University of Macao on Tuesday issued volume one of the first Chinese-English book on medicinal herbs in China's Macao Special Administrative Region.

The illustrated manual book is written in both Chinese and English to give scientific names and descriptions on the characteristics, habitat, chemical components of 400 herbal species that can be found in Macao. Volume one contains 50 species of herbs.

Co-authors of the book, Chan Shek-Kiu, a professor with the University of Macao, and Wu Qigen, a professor in the South China Institute of Botany, said that the book is supposed to give reference on medicinal herbs to Macao people, who have a tradition of drinking herbal tea.

In order to write the book, the authors looked for natural herbs in the wild, and took digital pictures for each species for illustration.

Han Yingduo, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said the book that has assimilated the latest research results in medicinal herbs not only facilitates the promotion of Chinese medicinal herbs in Macao, but also helps the worldwide exchanges in the field.
