Applications for the second phase of the Youth Pre-employment Training Program (YPTP) 2002/03 will be accepted from Jan. 11 to 20, according to Pamela Tan Kam Mi-wah, commissioner for labor of Hong Kong, Saturday.
The 2002/03 program was further improved by introducing new job-specific skills training courses such as China trade, mainland factory liaison staff training, school teaching and activity assistant training, game programming and programmer training and club house assistant training.
In addition, some courses on leadership, discipline and team building training were held in the mainland to broaden the horizons of trainees.
The career counseling and support services would be provided throughout the whole program and after job placement. Such services would assist trainees in their transition to work and increase their employment opportunities.
Tan hoped that youngsters who need pre-employment training would grasp the opportunity to equip themselves to meet future challenges.
"The YPTP aims at enhancing participants' employability and preparing them for the labor market by helping them develop long-term goals and positive attitudes towards life and work," said Tan.
The YPTP was launched in 1999 and more than 35,000 trainees have received training since then.
