The Tsang Hin-chi Education Foundation celebrated its 10th founding anniversary in Beijing Friday, and awarded scholarships to excellent college students of this year.
Present at the celebration were faculty members and students from 11 Beijing-based Chinese universities and prize-winners of the previous years.
Over the past 10 years, the foundation has awarded nearly 13,000 teachers and college students with 70 million yuan (about US$8.4 million).
Tsang, a member of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and chairman of Goldlion Holdings Limited, donated 100 million yuan (about US$12 million) to cooperate with the Ministry of Culture on the foundation, which first launched the award program for excellent teachers.
From 1993 to 1999, the foundation awarded 7,028 Chinese teachers with a fund of 45.02 million yuan (about US$5.4 million).
In 2000, the foundation launched a college student award project to aid excellent students from impoverished families. So far, the program has been launched in 35 Chinese colleges and universities with 18.9 million yuan (about US$2.3 million).A total of 5,250 people received the awards.
