Ethnic Minorities Boast High College Enrollment
Of the nearly 30,000 high school students of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang sitting college entrance examinations this July, nearly 80 percent will pass exams and be enrolled, says an educational official.

The official in charge of college enrollment in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region said that he made this estimate on the basis of last year's track record.

"The enrollment rate among ethnic minority students in Xinjiang has been growing steadily in recent years," he said. "This has boosted the confidence of ethnic minority students and the number of candidates this year is the highest ever."

"Students of ethnic minorities are less nervous about the examination nowadays than before," said a high school teacher. "As everybody knows, you'll be able to enter a good college as long as you keep studying hard."

Ethnic minority students in Xinjiang take the examination in their respective native languages.
