French Sophie Marceau Attends Beijing Film Premiere

French superstar Sophie Marceau attended China's premiere of "Anthony Zimmer," a French blockbuster she starred in, in Beijing on Thursday.

The film is the closing film for the Year of France in China.

At the premiere press conference Thursday afternoon, Sophie said, "Film is a way of cultural exchanges and communication without national boundaries. It needs not a passport... I wish to dedicate myself to the communication of film and culture between France and China," she said.

Anthony Zimmer is a romantic story featuring mystery, intrigue and love. In the movie, Sophie Marceau acts a vicious beauty who is a fashionable, sexy and beautiful lady.

Sophie Marceau is very popular among Chinese audiences because of her oriental-like look. Her first visit to China in 2001 caused a sensation at the fifth Shanghai International Film Festival.

Besides "Anthony Zimmer," Sophie also wants to share another three movies with her Chinese fans, including the 11-minute "L'Aube a l'envers" and "Speak to Me of Love", both written and directed by Sophie, and "See You Tonight" which she starred in.

They will be showed at the one-person film fair held at the China Film Archive in Beijing on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Year of France in China, which opened in October 2004, will close this month with an array of events, including the fairs for Sophie, a performance by Paris Opera Ballet, an evening ball in the Summer Palace, and a jamboree on the Great Wall.
