HK Filming Guide Wins Int'l Award

The Guide to Filming in Hong Kong2005-06 booklet has won the Honorable Mention Award of the Association of Film Commissioners International Marketing Awards in Los Angeles, according to a government press release Sunday.

The handy booklet, published by Hong Kong Film Services Office, provides resourceful and versatile information to local and overseas film production companies for conducting location filming in Hong Kong.

It contains seven chapters, including film services office, Hong Kong film industry, location filming, government regulations, useful information, contact list, and weather chart.

The chapter on location filming gives a general account of popular location filming sites in Hong Kong, including the airport, country parks, government buildings and public transport.

The section on regulations carries a brief description of laws in relation to location filming, such as the use of simulated uniforms/modified firearms and special arrangements for closing lanes and parking vehicles.

Each chapter also features a special quotation by a famous local film director, such as John Woo and Ann Hui, on their views of filming in Hong Kong.

It is the second time that the publication received international recognition for its outstanding design and content. The 1999 edition of the booklet won the same award in 2000.

The Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) is anon-profit educational organization of film commissions. Founded in 1975, it now comprises more than 300 commissions from 30 countries, providing a worldwide network for sharing their experiences.

The AFCI Marketing Awards is an annual competition to promote the importance of marketing skills. The award categories cover marketing products ranging from websites and production guides to location brochures.
