China to Hold World Family Summit

A world family summit is scheduled to be held from Dec. 6 to 9 in Sanya of China's southernmost Hainan Province, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the International Family Year.

Cosponsored by world family organization, the United Nations, China Family Planning Commission and the national women federation, the summit will attract 127 government institutions and non-government organizations from all the 47 members of the world family organization.

Senior officials and experts will give speeches and hold talks on the summit about the improvement of living conditions, sustainable development and cultural communication.

The organizing committee said the summit should sum up the achievements of the world family organization during the past 10 years and discuss the problems that the future families may encounter together with the solutions.

Founded in 1947, the world family organization has 47 member countries. China has joined the organization in 2001, and became member of the standing council in 2002.
