Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will celebrate the "Year of France in China" simultaneously with several Chinese mainland cities.
More than 40 activities will be presented between October 2004 and July 2005 under the auspices of the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong, Leisure and Cultural Services Department and other local institutions, according to a press release at a press conference jointly held by General Consulate of France in Hong Kong and Hong Kong's Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
The celebration is organized to allow Hong Kong people an opportunity to know more about French culture, technology, economy and therefore enhance ties and cooperation in many aspects. Most of the activities will be presented for the first time in Hong Kong.
Activities will cover performing arts, films, literature, visual arts, spectacular shows, science and technology, as well as economy.
There are also numerous activities beyond the artistic field, such as seminars on education, economy as well as science and technology exhibitions.
To mark the grand opening ceremony on Oct. 12, 2004, the "Parade" -- a stage curtain by Pablo Picasso will be unveiled and displayed .
Some of the other highlights during the celebration will include the "Patrouille de France", an aerobatics display by the renowned French International Aerobatics Team from the French Air Force.
Consul-General of France in Hong Kong Serge Mostura and President of the Honorary Committee (Hong Kong) of the "Year of France in China" attended Tuesday's press conference.
